He is a medical doctor and epidemiologist, as he holds a Degree of Medicine (MD) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Epidemiology focusing on tuberculosis and HIV. Mfinanga supervises and mentors fellows at a junior and mid-career level in various local and international academic and non-academic institutions. He has published over 100 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine. He has expertise in epidemiology, clinical trials, and public health surveillance for infectious and non communicable diseases. Mfinanga is the Director and Chief Research Scientist for NIMR Muhimbili Cenre, Honorary Professor of Global Health at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Honorary Lecturer at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam, and Adjunct Professor at Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Arusha, Tanzania.

Did my PhD on Tuberculosis and my post-doc in Health Economics. I've been at the Institute for Future studies and active in the World Values Survey network since the early 90's. Worked in Sophia Antipolis, Southern France for many years as professor of Future studies and communication strategies. Most recent project: A Migrant World Values Survey in Sweden. We have data from more than hundred countries on values and social norms in the World Values Survey, but we lack representative data on people migrating from one country to another. We have now completed the very first migrant WVS in Sweden, with 6,500 respondents from the main non-european migrant countries.
Eduard Ponarin holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan (the USA) and is a tenured professor at the Higher School of Economics (Russia) where he directs Laboratory for Comparative Social Research. He is Russia’s representative in the Word Values Survey Association and a member of that organization’s Executive Council. Before joining Higher School of Economics, he taught at the European University at St. Petersburg (1998-2008) where he served as the Chair of Political Science and Sociology (2005-2008). He also served on PONARS Executive Board in 2003–2006. Professor Ponarin's research interests include survey research, comparative sociology, nationalism and identity politics, and Islamic societies.

My main research area is social stratification - including studies of educational inequality, the class structure, and social mobility. My interest in intergenerational processes also incorporates the study of children's well-being. I am also engaged in studies of ethnic stratification. I am the PI for Sweden in a comparative project on the integration of ethnic minority school children (CILS4EU), led by Frank Kalter, Universität Mannheim. As I am responsible for the Swedish Level-of-Living Survey (LNU) (Level-of-Living (LNU)), I have an interest in research in the level and distribution of welfare.
